"Providing the reins of command in emergencies"

A LEADER'S CREDE

1. Always expect the best.
    Believe in your employee's abilities.
2. Listen to your employees - study their needs.
What do they like - believe - hate?
3. Set high standards.
    Make "positiveness" your constant companion.
4. To fail is not fatal - learn from failure.
Failure should be a stepping stone to success.
5. Use role models - be a role model.
A role model is worth a thousand words of encouragement.
6. Recognize and applaud achievement - immediately.
    Applause can move mountains.
7. Build "allegiance" - to you - to the group - to the organization.
    Espirit-de-corps - the binding catalyst.
8. Allow "strivers" to succeed.
Don't build roadblocks - build confidence.
9. Discipline must be:
    Immediate
    Never a reward for failure.
Always used as an extension to training.
    Never a weapon of partiality.
    Always used to reinforce standards.
    Never seen as a compromise.

Copywrite - Bob Ehrman - March 1981

Although this was written for industry it applies equally well to the MARS program and especially the manner in which we interact. If these rules are adhered to, especially as they could apply to new members, we would experience a transition from a lazafare attitude to a "can do" team attitude.
