The intent of this forum is to provide technical information that may prove to be helpful
to our membership. We invite all members to submit information on any and all radio/
computer subjects via the link at the bottom of this page.
The Technical Forum is pleased to welcome the Region One Technical Manager, John Mellett, AFA1HK/AFF1M to this Forum. John's Forum is at this link.
Here are a couple of very intresting web sites worthy of a visit. Both present an excellent discussion of the ARRL OO
program and an outstanding number of technical discussions on a number of areas that hams (and MARS members) should
explore. Nearly all of "us" "get rusty" after a while and need some refresher training in the technical aspects of our
choosen hobby.
The first is by Duane Traver, WV2B the Western New York OOC. http://www.stpaulisland.net/oo.html. The second is by John Teer, AK5Z the

With the ever increasing bad weather events, the chances of loosing your primary commercial electrical source becomes a greater reality. Some members have on-going projects or completed energy sources for the "just in case" times. If you have an alternate energy source you would like to share with the group please email your information and pictures to AFF1W for inclusion in this forum.
Here is a article from AFA1LK Steve describes his solar and battery back up installation.

If you are interested in learning about computers, tips on purchasing a computer, etc, Shila Curtis was kind enough to provide the following:
"I thought I would pass along another page I found that you don't have on your site:
http://www.couponcactus.com/resources/guide-to-buying-a-new-computer.html
This site has tons of information about buying a computer, it covers the basics
of what a computer is, and what components are necessary. I sent this to
my parents who are getting ready to buy their first computer. It might be
a good addition to your page as well. Let me know what you think."
Thanks to Shila for the above contribution!!
