Miscellaneous Stuff

Here you will find items and downloads that don't fit anywhere else on the web site.

Here's an interesting history of the phonetic alphabet starting with the first recognized one from the 1913 Blue Jacket's Manual: The Phonetic Alphabet.
Musical CQ

Here's a silly ditty for hams only: Musical CQ
Check it out....put a smile on your face.
Here's the MARS Message Generator.

It will give you the correct MARS message format as well as all of the information required for an EEI.
After you have the program installed, use your MS Explorer and navigate to the program, open the file called MARSMSG.ini and change the "Callsign=" to your MARS call and make sure the "PATH=" is correct (it should be okay). This change won't affect how the program runs, but it put's the correct call sign information in where it goes.
OUT OF REGION?

When you leave Region One but still want to check into MARS, consider checking into the regional net(s) where you are located.
Visit our LINKS page and check out the regional web sites. Most list their nets, times and frequencies.
You are welcome to radio check 1S1, but unfortunately, per the MOI, we cannot go beyond that, that is to say, no traffic (informals, etc).
Gas Prices Confusing?
Contributed by John, AFA1HK

This is pretty handy.
Bring up this web site and enter your zip code and it tells you which gas stations have the least expensive prices (and the highest prices) for gas in your zip code area. Just scroll down and you will see. It's updated every evening.
RED SKELTON
Contributed by George, AFA1BJ
FOR THE FEW WHO DON'T KNOW:
Red Skelton was a movie star and comedian on television back in the 1950's. He created a number of characters and his show was watched by millions. He did this on his show one evening, back when shows were live. This is outstanding. How would he have known that this is what is happening!!! Turn your sound on and click on the link:: The Pledge

Tim, AFA1UF Submitted this one.

This hand key was used with gun lights shore to shore or shore to ship.
Hand-held and hand-operated scissors-like key for signal lamp M-227. (It allowed the operator to stand safely away from the signal light while sending.)
