ZANESVILLE - Jess Thomas Cable, 81, of Zanesville, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2005, at Genesis Hospice, Morrison House.
Jess was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Steubenville, to the late Jess and Mary Rea Lowe Cable. He was employed by General Electric for 39 years, retiring as supervisor of inspection and was a HAM operator (K8LOV) for over 50 years, MARS (Military Affiliate Radio System), where he was the national [radio teletype] manager. He was also the Muskingum County Bee inspector for 10 years, attended New Hope Full Gospel Church and he served our country and protected our freedom by serving in the U.S. Army for 37 months during World War II.
Surviving are his loving wife, Jinny McBride Cable of the home; five daughters, Terrie Gatton of Kempner, Texas, Laura (Gene) Vance of Valparaiso, Ind., Kim (Bob) Mihalko of Medina, Star (Doug) Pickrell of Zanesville and Lisa (Rob) Jonard of New Concord; a son, Tom Cable of Zanesville; two sisters, Jeane (Fritz) Lang of North Dakota and Esther Pletcher of Westerville; nine grandchildren, Stacey (Toby) Fish of New York, Amy (James) Reagan of Washington, Bryan (Lori) Vance of Zanesville, Chad and Nick Cable of Zanesville, Jeff Black Jr. of Brunswick, Austin, Jared and Meredith Pickrell of Zanesville; seven great-grandchildren, Cody Emfinger of Lamesa, Texas, Jamie and Ryan Fish of New York, Spencer and Garrett Reagan of Washington, Cameron and MaKenna Vance of Zanesville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jan Mitchell Cable; a granddaughter, Marianne Gatton; and three sisters, Betty Barrell, Bessie Kranz and Bea Streets.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at The Snouffer Funeral Home, 1150 W. Military Road.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, 2005, in The Snouffer Chapel with Pastor Joe Divincenzo officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the George Selsam VFW Post 1058.
